Practicing scientists require an understanding of how science influences — and is influenced by — society. Māori knowledge (mātauranga) and practice (tikanga) are crucial to this understanding and thus underpin our social license to practice. In Aotearoa New Zealand, scientists must be able to work with multiple knowledge traditions. In this course, students develop knowledge and skills to engage with Māori communities by understanding mātauranga and tikanga Māori in the context of scientific education and research.
