In this paper students will learn about linear and nonlinear optimization methods, and the role of operations research in solving problems in business and industry. Key theory underpinning these advanced mathematical techniques will be introduced. There will be an emphasis on the formulation of optimization models and the use of mathematical software, such as SAS and Matlab, to implement and solve the models. A case study will be used to demonstrate the application of key concepts.
