The behaviour of solid bodies subjected to external loading, building on the previous work in Solid Mechanics I. Additional aspects of analysis are investigated, including stresses and strains due to bending, shearing, buckling, and pressure loads. Energy methods will be used to determine the effect of impact loading on members and to determine displacements due to multiple loads. Theory of plasticity and failure criteria will also be investigated. The main objectives will be to implement these relationships into the mechanical design procedure in order to determine the appropriate material and geometry for the structural or machine member.
