Are human beings selfish and competitive by nature or are we naturally caring and cooperative? Are human beings rational? Can we control our emotions? Should we control them? These empirical questions and others relating to human nature will be addressed in the light of scientific theories, current research and debates in the area of emotions. The development in the students of a concept of human nature informed by the latest research in psychology and evolutionary theory will be encouraged.
