This course builds upon the principles of soil mechanics covered in Geotechnical Engineering I, providing an advanced exploration of geotechnical investigation, foundation engineering, and the design of retaining structures. Through a combination of theoretical study and practical applications, students will develop critical skills in planning and executing geotechnical site investigations, interpreting investigation reports, and selecting appropriate foundation systems based on site conditions. The course covers in-depth analysis and design of both shallow and deep foundations, including bearing capacity calculations, settlement analysis, and performance assessment. Students will study lateral earth pressure theories and their application in retaining wall design. The course also incorporates groundwater management in the foundation and retaining wall design, preparing students to address complex real-world geotechnical challenges.
