Introduces the student to the methodology of engineering design to enable them to undertake complex design work. Design strategies, including problem decomposition and solution synthesis, will be used by student teams or individually to create robust and sustainable solutions to engineering projects. Failure theories will be discussed to be considered in the design phase. Some common mechanical components such as bolts, screws and springs will be discussed. The projects will build on principles and material previously studied and covered in this paper to help the student to understand and solve engineering systems.
