An introduction to Tikanga Māori and its interface with the imposed settler state legal system of Aotearoa New Zealand. Considers fundamental concepts of tikanga Māori and the legal and constitutional significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Treaty of Waitangi. Examines Tikanga Māori as first law of Aotearoa New Zealand and settler state recognition of Tikanga Māori concepts.
