SPAN700 Spanish Overseas Experience provides students with the academic component in support of their participation in the Spanish Government's Language and Culture Assistants Program. Students accepted into this programme spend a semester in Spain participating in English language classes while being immersed in Spanish language and culture. They will develop basic communication skills in Spanish language and culture and acquire transferable intercultural competencies as they interact and work with others effectively across linguistic and cultural variations. Throughout the semester, the Spanish language and Intercultural Competence components of the course will support students to grow their cultural and intercultural awareness, and criticality by researching, analysing, and evaluating beliefs, values, practices, and identity in their own and the Spanish speaking cultures. Students will also acquire basic language teaching skills in order to maximise their experience as teachers in the Spanish Government's Language and Culture Assistants programme.
