This course addresses the educational aspirations of ākonga Māori and hāpori. This course applies Kaupapa Māori theory to critically examine educational approaches that acknowledges and upholds the whakapapa, gifts, and unlimited potential to learn that tamariki Māori bring with them to education. Ideas to be considered include critical Kaupapa Māori theory, integrating tirititanga, te reo Māori and mātauranga Māori across learning contexts, relational pedagogies, identifying current research that contributes to effective pedagogical approaches for ākonga Māori, tikanga-a-iwi. Tauira kaiako will develop a culturally sustaining praxis framework that prepares them to work with ākonga Māori, whānau, hāpori across learning contexts.
