Creating a better future requires an understanding of the interconnected systems that impact our world and its inhabitants. This paper introduces students to the origins, basic concepts and domains of social and environmental issues and will develop critical awareness of future challenges by exploring the environmental, economic, energy and equity needs of our world. Students will also be introduced to the design processes that can be used to address complex issues and effect positive change.
