This paper engages students in critical understandings of the term ‘indigenous peoples.’ It examines colonised and deterritorialised groups that utilise popular genres such as film, performance, and literature to speak for social issues and political struggles. Students also explore how diasporas living outside of their ancestral lands popularise indigeneity and sovereignty narratives.
