This course focuses on understanding the cultural identities of different Pacific peoples in Aotearoa New Zealand, and their significance for education. Through talanoa or related dialogic frameworks this course enquires into Pacific peoples’ interactions with Māori, and other migrant and Pākehā communities. There is a focus on the relationship to place and its effect on cultural identity and recognition of the Measina (cultural wealth/cultural capital) that Pacific peoples bring to this place. Students’ critically examine their own educational histories and interactions with Pacific peoples.
