Understanding cultural perspectives of child development will allow teachers to sensitively respond to, and care for diverse children in range of education settings. Such knowledge provides a foundation for question and critique of learning for children in those settings. In this paper students will explore the construct of the child from different cultural perspectives. Learning will be situated within Aotearoa and wider global sociocultural contexts. Students will use their developing understanding of the child and child development theories to explore the lived realities of children and interrogate how to support children to be agentic in their learning.
