This course aims to give students a foundational grounding in the history of Aotearoa New Zealand, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and how these relate to education. Students will engage with and analyse literature, policy, media, and historical texts to examine interactions between education, culture, politics and society. Questions considered include: How have educational legislation and policy contributed to current unequal outcomes for Māori? By questioning the history of education in Aotearoa, how can educators ensure equal access quality education to quality education for all?
