Leadership in higher education is a hybrid space of collegiality, managerialism, academic activity, and professional service units. Different blends of these facets mixed with internal and external expectations create arrangements of roles and practices that dually have both challenge and opportunity. This encompasses all practitioners in higher education, be they academic, professional, or ‘third-space’. This course examines how differing ontologies and models of leadership can inform understanding the complexity and transformation of practice. This includes considering how role expectations and arrangements can adjust to sustain and build collegiality. In addition to this, a reflection-in-practice perspective can assist understanding and developing current practice labelled as leadership.
