This course explores diverse ways of coming to understand how the body is seen both as a meaningful object in itself and as a medium for the production of meaning in popular culture and performance. How are social identities constructed, represented, regulated, challenged and potentially liberated in and through the (re)presentation of the body on stage, on screen, and on the page Well be looking at a wide range of examples: from professional wrestling to kapa haka, from performance art to burlesque, and from superhero movies to music videos.
