Recent theoretical developments in critical criminology around Counter-Colonial Criminology, Indigenous Criminology, Revolutionary Criminology, Zemiology and Anti-Criminology perspectives benefit greatly from Maori perspectives. Drawing on these debates, the relationship between power and knowledge creation will be explored to identify why the state criminalises some harmful behaviours but leaves other severe social harms unpunished. How narrative structures aid criminalisation and decriminalisation processes will be examined.
