Introduces students to the major theoretical traditions that have informed differing conceptions of deviance and crime, and the different responses that each theory has elicited. The distinctions between 'deviance' and 'crime' are explored, and students are introduced to the different philosophies behind the criminal justice system, prisons and responses to crime.
