Engages students with the theoretical underpinnings of prisons, punishment, rehabilitation and the ideologies involved with the commonplace approaches to how offenders are controlled. Prisons will also be explored from the perspective of inmates and prison officers. An examination will be made of the ethical consideration of human rights within the context of prisons and other forms of punishment such as the death penalty and torture.
