The course prepares students for their first translation assignments. Students develop an awareness of the problems involved in translation. They will familiarise themselves with the various techniques of preparing and analysing a source text and perform the steps in the translation process to produce several drafts of target texts. They will self-assess and peer- assess target texts and produce a reflective commentary on the steps in the translation process and the assessment of the target text. Students will also develop an understanding of the professional ethics for translators. They will identify ethical problems for translators and translation and will develop an understanding of how to deal with such problems with ethics guidelines.
