Surveys the development of designed environments since the European Enlightenment and the emergence of industrial capitalism and colonization to the present day, with a focus on the latter half of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Constructs a theoretical platform from which students might appreciate how we got to where we are now, the implications for practice, and how this environmental intelligence informs students’ own experience.
