This course introduces fundamental skills for Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation through basic comparison of Chinese grammar and English grammar in a variety of texts. It focuses on sociolinguistic aspects of Modern Standard Chinese that tend to create problems in translation. Specific training will be given in the selection of equivalent Chinese and English expressions appropriate for their context.
