This course provides a framework for understanding the history and context of Maori and Pacific education and introduces relevant concepts including the bell curve and the long brown tail of achievement, the homogenising and depoliticising effects of state education, white privilege, links to larger economic effects etc. Such concepts are applied to discussion of major contemporary debates in Maori and Pacific education, and issues in everyday professional contexts for educators in Aotearoa New Zealand.
