Communication is central to the ways in which children and adults relate to one another expressing their thoughts, feelings, etc. In this paper, kaiako explore the role of communication (non-verbal/verbal) for a range of purposes and across multiple modes. Knowledges of stories and symbols that are valuable to children and their whānau (home and heritage) in Aotearoa New Zealand supports children’s sense of identity and experiences of communication. This further underpins Te Tiriti of Waitangi and official languages of Aotearoa New Zealand.
