Underpinned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, this course offers students an opportunity to grow their understandings of how relationships with people, places, and things can enhance a sense of belonging in early childhood education. Students will explore how belonging can be fostered in ECE spaces that value and make visible linguistic and cultural diversity and multiple worldviews, inclusive of tamariki, family, and whānau voices in bicultural and superdiverse Aotearoa New Zealand. The course themes of kaitiakitanga and critical place pedagogies and the Tātaiako competencies of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, and Tangata Whenuatanga will support understandings of Belonging | Mana Whenua in early childhood education.
