This paper covers topics related to computer aided design and manufacturing and involves research and evaluation with selected problems in mechanical engineering. Special focus is on the finite element analysis and geometrical modelling of solids. While enabling the student to develop an advanced level of understanding, the course connects different aspects covered prior in the undergraduate education such as material processing, applied mechanics and manufacturing technology, and allows realisation of advanced methods to analyse selected mechanical systems with complex boundary conditions. Course contents include mathematical treatment of finite element modelling of elastostatics, fluid flow and potential type problems, curve, surface and solid modelling for some advanced manufacturing applications.
