This course offers students the opportunity to put research into action. It provides a step by step introduction to the research design process, using current social issues to analyse how they are researched and reported on. Students consider data reliability and the notion of multiple truths and who/what determines what counts as ‘the truth’. They then select an area they wish to investigate and work in groups to assess the value of related research studies, formulate research questions, and select an appropriate methodology that they then put into action. They analyse and write up their results, critically reflecting on the knowledge acquired through the project.
