This course is intended to introduce students to a world that increasingly relies on insights from data, where data analytics is commonplace within many work roles and yet where many of the human challenges to using this data will remain. The course introduces students to the field of social data analytics and is intended for students who do not have a formal background in statistics or computer science. The course will discuss the role of social data analytics in decision making, basics of descriptive and linear predictive analytics, ethical principles in data analytics, and overview of big data analytics and applications. Students will learn about wrangling, analysing, and presenting social data for decision-making using readily available spreadsheet application and small publicly available datasets.
