In this course students will explore the key ideas shaping the early childhood sector, with particular emphasis on the sociocultural nature of the early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki. Key ideas to consider include the image of the child as ‘capable and competent’, that children learn in relationship to people, places and things, and that assessment systems start with the assessor’s perspectives, values and beliefs.
