This course will consider Kaupapa Māori concepts and methodologies in education. It will be of interest to educators interested in intercultural education, social justice and equity. Kaupapa Māori theory is a critical Indigenous philosophy of education, which underpins Kaupapa Māori education, practice and research. The course aims to build students’ knowledge of Kaupapa Māori theory in education and their capacity for critical thinking and good academic writing. This course is appropriate for Māori and non-Māori students. Experience in Kaupapa Māori education is not necessary but non-Māori students will need to carefully consider their relationship to Māori in education.
