Introduces students to the field of academic inquiry into communication for social change. Uses case studies of both media practice and media representation to engage students in key issues surrounding communication for social change, including but not limited to: critiques of existing models of development and philanthropism; the relationship between advocacy communication and propaganda; and communication inequalities for marginalised and vulnerable communities.
