An in-depth survey of the history of Ta Moko in the post-contact period, with particular emphasis on current practice, to explore symbolic messages to express history, identity and culture. It draws on critical social theory to ethically and politically analyse the revival of the Ta Moko as a microcosm of the Maori experience in Aotearoa.
