Leadership in higher education is a hybrid space of collegiality, managerialism, academic activity, and professional service units. Different blends of these facets, mixed with internal and external expectations create arrangements of roles and practices that dually have both challenge and opportunity. This paper examines what conceptualisations of leadership can inform transformation of practice, including how role expectations and arrangements can adjust to sustain and build collegiality. In addition to this, a reflection-in-practice perspective will assist understanding and developing current practice labelled as leadership.
