This course has been designed especially for the School of Education to provide an introduction to the Māori language for student teachers. There is an emphasis on pronunciation, greetings and forms of language in particular cultural contexts that introduce the students to basic te reo Māori vocabulary and speech patterns appropriate for use in the classroom context of New Zealand Primary schools and/or Early Childhood Centers. Note: This course assumes no prior knowledge of the Māori language and is supported by the online award winning language acquisition programme: Dr Māori VIP package which includes the Te Pūmanawa App for iPads and smart phones and access to the e-textbook ‘Te Reo Taketake – Ko Te Pū.
