In this course students will explore the role of the teacher in early childhood education (ECE.). The course emphasizes relationships as the basis for teaching and learning and acknowledges how an understanding of our own values and beliefs are fundamental in building respectful relationships with diverse communities of learners. Students will engage in readings, discussion, reflection and practice (through practicum) to highlight the diversity of ECE, provision in Aotearoa New Zealand and explore aspects of the regulatory framework which guides practice in ECE.
