Engages students with contemporary issues relevant to multicultural communities in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and internationally. They will consider the policies and approaches of the state and other organizations including community service organizations towards communities and, in particular, their impact on Maori, Pasifika and newer migrant communities. The course also emphasises the strategies developed by these communities in building their political, economic and social capacity and reviews current research in a number of key areas. In addition, it looks at the theories, concepts and realities of multiculturalism and biculturalism.
