A critical understanding of alternative definitions and conceptualisations of personality across the lifespan will be fostered, and an overview of major personality theories as explanatory models provided. Current issues in personality theory and research will be reviewed. The implications of major theories of personality for personality assessment and psychological practices which promote change across the lifespan will be considered.
