Introduces students to Cook Islands Māori language (Te Reo Ipukarea) and culture through an intercultural communicative approach. Develops basic and culturally appropriate communication and interaction skills and strategies through an understanding of contemporary and historical Cook Islands culture and politics. Students will be encouraged to explore language use and communication styles and to reflect on key concepts such as transnationalism, multiculturalism, colonisation and indigenous knowledge from different perspectives.
