China is rapidly developing, with major changes taking place socially and culturally that are impacting on how China presents itself to the world. This course focuses on contemporary Chinese society and communities after 1949, when political changes took place that started Chinas modernization. Students will develop a deep understanding of modern Chinese culture and society that has been shaped by these changes, by analyzing and reflecting on aspects of contemporary China.
