Students will explore East Asian values and beliefs, interpreting and critically evaluating established understanding of contributing sociocultural and sociolinguistic factors, and how they manifest in attitude and behavior. The main focus is on the two main superpowers, Japan and China, with opportunities to explore those of other East Asian countries. Students will evaluate similarities and differences with their own values and beliefs, and how the application of this intercultural understanding would benefit their formal and informal interaction with people from East Asian cultures in their future careers.
